Because Breidafjördur Bay is in the middle of nowhere. That’s the whole idea.
In western Iceland, in early winter, approximately 20 warmly dressed people work with special boats to harvest Laminaria digitata kelp from the deep, Artic waters of Breidafjördur Bay.
Surrounded by nothing but nature at it’s rawest and most pure, the Icelander’s chop the kelp and then dry it on a 5-tier band drier with “Old Faithfull” type geothermal heat. All this within two hours of being harvested from the sea. The air temperature never exceeds 7.5øC and the material temperatures are lower than that. Under these conditions all the organic and biologically active substances ascribed to seaweeds are preserved intact. The use of geothermal heat to dry the kelp means there is no surface oxidation or burning of the kelp as seen in oil or coal fired drying systems. And of course there are no by-products of combustion carried from the “geothermal boiler”.
Until now, people who wanted dramatic results from a skin care product had no option but to use harsh chemicals on their skin. Thanks to Breidafjördur Bay and Hannesdottir, pure, healed, nourished skin is possible...naturally.

A Vision creates a Blessed Formula
Hannesdottir Skincare was developed from a vision that the American founder saw while she was laying in bed in that twilight zone that comes just before sleep when a list of ingredients appeared before her eyes. The voice in her head was practically screaming at her to “get up and write it down.”
The next day she went searching in a medical dictionary and found the mysterious ingredient was: “a tissue tightener.” At that moment she realised that the formula was a gift from God and her Icelandic father, Hannes Arthur.
She worked for a year to get the formula right and finally took the “kitchen counter” recipe to a laboratory. They wanted to know where the formula came from and were reluctantly told the truth. They argued about adding preservatives and she reluctantly changed the ingredients and unknowingly created the exploding version of the formula. On her way to an appointment with a Beverly Hills investor the lid blew off one of the jars! She finally stopped messing with the formula!
